There are websites that simply will not load when surfing the net in safe "Private Windows" in Firefox. One current example of such a site in Forbes. Forbes seems to cater only to users who are willing to expose themselves to risks on the web.
I have found a few actions to take in emergency cases, if one really wants to access such a site.
Disable Tracking Protection
Click on the little shield and globe icon next to the URL in the private window as in the illustration below. Choose the option Tracking Protection > Disable protection for this session.
I have no idea how safe this is. And life is too short to figure it out. Millions of other users take similar risks on the internet each day, so you will at least not be alone in whatever problems may follow.
Clear history when Firefox closes
In Preferences > Privacy > History, there is an option "Clear History when Firefox closes." Here is one of those choices one needs to make in life about how safe one wants to be and which inconveniences one is willing to put up with. If you set this option and configure it with its "Settings..." button, you can prevent any cookies and any history from being saved between sessions. As far as I understand, this limits the tracking internet sites can do with your surfing. By the way, it also means you will have to enter your passwords on all password protected sites every time you restart Firefox.
Nevertheless, in case disabling the Tracking Protection causes some lasting effects on your browser, they will be erased once you quit Firefox. Probably.
Remember
If you work on a nuclear reactor design or something similarly confidential, and the safety of your work somehow depends on your browsing security, it is not enough to use private browsing in your browser. Your browsing can be read by your internet provider and employer, and it can be inferred by your IP address and so on. If you want to feel perfectly safe, don't use the internet to build nuclear reactors at all. Restrict yourself to looking at pictures of cats.
